What the Bible Says About Fear and Anxiety

July 8, 2026 · 4 min read

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

"Fear not" appears throughout Scripture — again and again, spoken to ordinary people facing very real uncertainty. The Bible never pretends fear isn't there. Instead, it answers fear with something stronger than reassurance: the nearness of God.

Notice what God says in Isaiah 41:10. He doesn't promise the absence of hard things. He promises His presence in them: "I am with thee." The antidote to fear is not a change in circumstances but a Person who does not leave.

Anxiety often grows when we rehearse the future alone. Faith interrupts that loop by reminding us we were never meant to face tomorrow on our own strength. "I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee," God says — present tense, personal, sure.

So when worry rises, try naming it honestly to God rather than burying it. Then answer it with truth: I am not alone. I am held. The same hand that upholds all things is upholding me.

Peace doesn't always mean the storm stops. Sometimes it means you've stopped facing it by yourself.
